Ever since I was a child, my mother made it very clear to me that cooking was not part of her motherly duties. When my mom goes to the grocery store, which is probably once a year, she has to ask the grocery attendants where to find different items. If it were up to her, we wouldn’t have a kitchen in our house, due to the fact that it takes up way too much space and she hardly ever uses it. When I tell people that my mother doesn’t cook, they usually say, “Don’t say that about your Mother, she probably is a great cook”. However, she will be the first to admit that she’s never in the kitchen and that my father is the main chef in our household.
Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have my father cook for my family most nights. In addition, I was able to go to many different restaurants and this is how my passion for trying all different types of foods and being my own little mini food critic developed. So I’d love to write a passion blog about the different places to eat around campus and the environments that they have.
On the other hand, after only being at University Park for a week or so, I’ve come to the conclusion that navigating the campus requires a lot of walking. By the time I get back to my dorm in East Halls, I can’t feel my calves and several blisters have developed on my feet. It’s safe to say that I walk an average of six miles a day. It's very interesting to see all the different types of shoes that students and faculty wear around campus. As for my second blog, I would like to write about the different types of shoes that I encounter, as well as where you can buy them and how much they cost.
I, too, happen to look at the shoes people wear a lot, so I favor your second idea. I think it would be really interesting if you looked at the shoes people wear around campus and comment on the varying levels of comfort versus style that people opt for. What sorts of visual aids would be used for this idea? Would you post pictures of the shoes as they are being sold?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of being a food critic on campus. Everyone loves food and I think it could be really interesting and very fun for you to go to exotic restaurants in town. You know you'll never run out of things to say because so many restaurants here have quirks that won't get old. The second idea is an interesting one too, but I'm afraid you may run out of things to say towards the end of the semester.
ReplyDeleteVery different ideas, Shannon, but both have potential. I sense that a blog about food could have relevance to everyone in class (we all have to eat, after all), while the blog about shoes *might* be more geared toward women. (But perhaps men might really like shoes, too?)
ReplyDeleteWhich topic do you think you could sustain for the duration of the semester? Do you fear you'd run out of ideas and substantial commentary on one of the topics?
I look forward to learning which approach you choose!
Two very great topics, but I feel that there is more passion in your first blog idea. Food is something that we all love and hearing about it from different views will be very fun to hear.
ReplyDeleteI think both of these blogs could be very interesting and the second one is certainly relevant for all of us. However, I personally think that you would have more to expand upon in your first idea. Also, I love food and I think it would be interesting to see your perspectives on certain foods.

ReplyDeleteThe first topic would be very interesting to read about.Food is something that all college kids love and seeing how you got to experience many different restaurants and types of food,i feel like that is more of your passion. There's many different restaurants and food downtown and at Penn State and im interested to read about all your different experiences.
